The Bandwagon is Getting a little Crowded.

Me during my last road trip to Camden Yards in Baltimore.

Let me preface this. I am elated that my beloved Toronto Blue Jays are doing so well. As I type this the Jays seem destined for a playoff berth. Be-it the top of the division or a one game playoff it looks like the Jays will be playing in October, and this makes me happy to no end.

My problem lies with the vast majority of Toronto sports fans, the fair-weather fans, the FRONT RUNNERS! Toronto sports fans are notorious for this when it comes to any sport other then hockey. The Leafs sell out no matter what. Toronto loves hockey, and love their team. It shows. Baseball and Basketball are a whole other story. For years crowds at Rogers Centre numbering between ten and twenty thousand have been the norm. Now that the Jays are in the thick of a post season race the crowds are coming out in droves, I'm sure Sportsnets ratings are through the roof, and everyone whose anyone is a Jays fan. People who have never had any excitement about the Jays are now their biggest fans.

Now I am not a total grinch. I'm happy that the team is being supported. I'm ecstatic that Rogers is spending payroll and making some big splashes in the trade market. This new rash of fandom though is hurting long time fans however. Good luck getting tickets to upcoming games...trust me I've tried. Some guy is even trying to scalp tickets for the seasons last game for 10k. It's ridiculous. Even worse is when you as a longtime fan is painted as a front runner yourself. It just makes me sooooo angry.
