Kanga and little Roo.

I got my Winnie the Pooh reference done right off the top so now I can get on with the post....

I am writing this post on what could quite possible be my favorite new electronic device and most definitely the best PC buy I have seen in years. The Kangaroo PC is available from New Egg and the Microsoft Store for $149 CDN (less from the Microsoft Store with Educational Discount) and it is a fantastic little mini PC.  The specs may not blow you away with 32gb of storage and 2gb of memory but this PC is perfect for a multitude of purposes.

The computer is actually two pieces. There is the computer itself which has a power button, Windows Hello fingerprint reader, Micro SD slot, and a dock connector. The included dock features a USB 2.0, USB 3.0, and HDMI Out. Additional docks cab be purchased for about $40. Amazingly you can disconnect the computer from the dock and connect it to another at any point because the computer features about a 4 hour battery life. So you can work on this computer, disconnect it from the dock, throw it in your bag, and connect it to a dock elsewhere. It's a really great idea.  This computer would be perfect for a person who just does basic computing, checking email, word processing, etc. Hook the computer up to the TV and go. It's to me perfect for people who would be "good enough" with a Chromebook or Chromebox. This is that just with full blow Windows 10 - it's a computer, not just a browser. The computer feels snappy with no noticeable lag even when playing High Def video.

I bought this PC however for a different purpose. This is my new Home Theater PC. I was originally looking at an Apple TV to play my Apple content, but then I still have all these other set top boxes to watch things like Netflix, TMN, and other streaming services, so I decided to just buy a PC and this fit the bill.

Paired with a Logitech k400 keyboard the Kangaroo is a perfect living room PC. I can sit on my couch, open a browser, and play anything! I can go to Netflix, TMN, Crackle, the network website and watch anything. If I want to watch one of my digital copies I can just open iTunes, or If I want to watch something I've downloaded I just plug in a jump drive and watch it. This is my new favorite electronic.

If you choose to buy one of these I strongly recommend buying it directly from Microsoft as you will get a "Signature Edition" PC. Signature Edition PC's are Windows PC's free of cruft with no additions from the OEM.

Until next time I hope you found your time on this site to be time (and bandwidth) well wasted.
