It Works Every time.

It's that time again. Disney has released a trailer for a new Star Wars movie and I can't help myself. This marks the first teaser trailer for the final film in the Skywalker saga, Star Wars The Rise of Skywalker. 

First off let's touch on the title. Poor grammatical choices aside does this title make any sense? What Skywalker is rising? Are we re-hashing the Rey is a secret Skywalker debate? Is Luke a force ghost? Is Luke a zombie? Is the rise of Skywalker a bad thing or a good thing? Time will of course tell.

Back to the trailer...

The first half of the trailer is a lot of black screens and a cut scene of our heroine Rey in the desert. Which desert? Is it Tatooine? Is it Jaku? Or are we on yet another planet with only a single eco-system?

So we have Rey, standing in the desert, looking into the distance while we have Luke doing a voiceover claiming that he has passed all he can to Rey. It's all on her shoulders now. So she's staring into the desert and we see she has Luke's reconstructed lightsabre which she has also repaired and a ship is coming. It's a tie-fighter of some sort. She lights up her weapon and begins to run away and just before the fighter reaches her she jumps, using her force powers and flips over the tie.

Next, in the second half of the trailer, we get some rapid-fire flashes from the new film. We see a ship flying down towards a city of some sort on a mountainside, Kylo Ren running through the forest with his patented red filter on. JJ love's shooting Kylo in red environments. There are storm troopers around and Kylo has made the decision that running his lightsabre through someone is not enough he has to WWF bodyslam him into the ground as well. We then see a shot of a very hairy man, Wookie, or something making repairs to the Kylo Ren helmet. Clearly, this is JJ walking back some of the last movie and telling the story he wants to tell. We get a quick shot of Poe and Finn, BB-8 and an odd little single wheeled droid that looks like something from Plant vs Zombies. After this, however, comes the money shot. We see the man himself Billy Dee Williams at the helm of the Millenium Falcon cape and all. In Solo he swore he'd get his ship back and he seems to have done just that. Next, we get Poe and Finn along with the droids riding some sort of speeder, a shot of somebody touching the medal from the end of the first film. Is this Han's medal? Luke's medal? Or the medal that Chewie never got? This is quickly followed up by a shot of Leia hugging Rey that was cut from The Force Awakens. How are they going to include her in the story? I just hope it's not forced. I hope that they actually have enough footage to give her a place in this story or a proper send off. I just don't want them to blow up a planet and say "Oh no Leia was on that planet".

At the end of the trailer, we see our heroes coming to the end of a cliff where they see the remains of a Death Star emerging from an ocean or a lake. Are we on Yavin? Or are we on Endor? I think we're on the Forest Moon of Endor and this is the remains of the second Death Star that came falling from the sky at the end of Jedi. We may yet get to see ourselves some Ewoks!  The trailers final seconds are a voice over from Luke saying that no one is ever really gone and we hear what appears the be the menacing laugh of the emperor. Did he survive? Did he fall down to the moon with the remains of the Death Star? Has he been harassing the Ewoks? So many questions!

Make a new Star Wars movie and fill it with aging stars and references to the original trilogy...it works every time!
