The Carousel & Mad Men.

Last week David Letterman took a bow on his final show (which deeply saddens me), and Mad Men came to a close (which doesn't).

When Mad Men began it's run some years ago, I loved it (I even named my fantasy football team after the show). I thought it was fresh, the art direction was fantastic, and most importantly I thought it was hugely entertaining.

My opinion of the show has largely changed. Over the last several years I think the show just went down a bad path. What I loved about the show at the beginning was that not only was it about the lives of the characters it was about advertising. I loved watching Don and the others going through the process of creating an ad campaign. We haven't seen that in years. The show became increasingly about the mess that was Don Drapers life and not at all about the agency or the work they do there.

One of my favorite moments in the shows run is when we see Don create the name and campaign for Kodak's new slide projector - The Carousel.  Much like a carousel Mad Men was fantastic at the beginning but by the end I couldn't wait for it to stop so I could get off.

Thank god for DVD's so I can go back and remember how good this show was. Until next time I hope you enjoyed your time on this site and found it to be time (and bandwidth) well wasted.
