Throwback Thursday: Grade 11 Sign Project.

On the eve of Jerry Seinfeld coming to Niagara I've decided to once again focus on a high school design and tech project for this installment of Throwback Thursday. In grade eleven D&T we were assigned to design a wall plaque in AutoCAD that would be milled out on the CNC. As I recall it needed to be at least three levels and have space for no less then 10 LEDs. I wanted to be a bit more ambitious. For my plaque I drew the Seinfeld logo and NBC Peacock. The peacock was absolutely the hardest part. More specifically tracking down the colored LEDs to represent each feather. The purple one took forever to find.  With the help of my teacher, Mr .Hunter, I did eventually find all the colours I needed. 

After the drawing was complete I had to program the coordinates into the archaic DOS based CNC machine. I then sanded it down all nice, and had my mother paint it - yes my mother. After the painting was taken care of I put in all the LEDs and wired them up to the circuit board I had fabricated. The LEDs were connected to a light sensor that would illuminate the LEDs when it was dark in the room. 

This was a really cool project that I was happy with at the time, and still am happy with today. Until next time I hope you enjoyed your time on this site and found it to be time (and bandwidth) well wasted.
